Had an hour or two before family Mother's Day stuff, so I got down to Marshside.
Lovely bright sunshine, but the hooley was still blowing in hard from the south west and the marsh was very quiet.
Seven Avocets on Marshside One, and all the usual ducks, but the smart ones, like these Wigeons, were keeping their heads down.

Watched the Lapwings getting fruity for a bit - lots of tumbling and dive bombing and tentative territory staking out going on.
Another week or two and they'll be sitting.
One of the Lapwings was a colour ringed bird, but I couldn't see the full combination through the grass stems.

The Moorhens are getting quite aggressive too, chasing off any rivals from their piece of drain.

One or two small gull roosts, but nothing like the same number of birds as yesterday although I was there in the morning, so they could have come in during the afternoon.
A few GBBs putting the fear of God into everything at the top end.
Water levels seemed to be dropping a bit on Marshside One, where Goldies, Blackwits, Curlews and Redshanks were huddled up.

A single Dunlin was in with the Redshanks at the Hesketh Road end.
Roll on the first Wheatear.
Eyes to the skies everyone, eyes to the skies...

Moderate westerly wind, overcast, fairly mild: it's that time of year again! Seawatch over tomorrow morning's 1020 high tide at Formby Point.
Any takers? Thought not!
