Still waiting

Picked up Bazzo for a quick look at Marshside this morning - but with the wind still bitter and coming from the north west, our chances of finding any migrants were slim.
Certainly more Meadow Pipits about today, and at least one of the male Stonechats around the Sandplant walls.
A single Whooper Swan was on Marshside One, where there were at least 37 Avocets, with more around the Sandplant Pool and on M2.
(After I left Bazzo texted me after he watched three Little Stints in with 2,000 Golden Plover on Marshside One).

Four Little Egrets on Marshside Two, with several Grey Herons, some in fine breeding fettle. A big hybrid falcon (Lanner/Saker/Peregrine - take your pick!) put the wind up everything, but it was a quiet sort of morning.
Neill And Tropical joined us in the hide and things were so quiet we fell to grilling this long range second summer gull on Polly's Creek.

Long legs, stature, dark eye, long droopy bill were all good for Caspian, but it wasn't quite right....the gape didn't seem long enough, and it was just too far away.
Fortunately the Green Winged Teal popped up to save us from the hell of awkward gull id at long range, for which we should all be thankful.

Two male Ruddy Ducks on the Sandplant lagoon, and three Little Grebes too.
I am now suffering serious migrant withdrawal - what I wouldn't do for a Wheatear/Swallow/Sand Martin/Chiffy!
Eyes to the skies everyone, eyes to the skies...

Got a count of 56 Avocets on M1 + M2 this afternoon; also 24 Gadwall.

Hi John. The possible Caspian was on Polly's Pool again today, in better light with it's head up.
The gape looked fine compared with photos I've looked at on Surfbirds, might be worth another look if you get the chance.
