Mossland des res

Came across a pair of Oystercatchers prospecting around one of the old WWII pill boxes on the mosses this afternoon.
Not a bad nesting site - certainly secure, although probably a bit draughty.

They were two of several birds noisily displaying, but it has to be said, the mosses were fairly quiet.
No phylloscs singing in the coverts, though as it was so grey and cool, I can't really blame them.
No Wheatears about either - they have no excuse.
On Plex Moss, at least 10 Skylarks singing, and a flock of 35-40 Curlew - checked but there were no early Whimbrel amongst them.
A group of 18 Corn Buntings were in the usual spot on Plex Moss Lane, but the Fieldfares seem to have cleared out now.

A single Buzzard and 9 Stock Doves close to Getterns Farm, and a pair of Grey Partridge just up the road from there.
The white Pheasant is still strutting its stuff on Plex.
Eyes to the skies everyone, eyes to the skies...

Hi John,
There was a Chiffchaff in my garden this morning here in Walton, and from the Formby bypass this evening I saw a Buzzard over Woodvale Airfield just as the police helicopter landed there.
Last Sunday 30 March there were 3 Buzzards here over the house.

Lying in bed this am and looking out of window when saw what could have been a White Stork heading out over Meols Hall in the direction of ? Birkdale. High anyway and by the time I'd managed to get some bins out of sight.
Not too good at 7am so, mmmmm? Don't keep list of birds seen from bed or even in it.
About 30 noisy and exciteable Avocets at Banks this afternoon, later arrivals than the Marshside and M Mere birds. Green Sand there as well, seems omnipresent, so proper status "a non breeding resident"
