Carrion crow 1

Pretty quiet at Dempsey Towers now the finches of winter seem to have cleared out - no more Bramblings for a while I think.
Despite that Long Tailed Tits, Great and Blue Tits are all prospecting and singing away and seemed to draw the attention of this Carrion Crow:

Get them flying over all the time, but this is the first one I've seen landing and spending a malevolent five minutes or so eyeing up the garden on the look out for an easy meal.
Called a few times, head thrown back and tail fanned, but it didn't seem to bother the singing Goldcrests and Greenfinches too much.

Male Blackcap still about, I suspect a wintering bird rather than a new arrival, otherwise the Sparrowhawk bait is building up, and sitting out in way too vulnerable a position ...

Banks Marsh WeBS was quiet on Sunday albeit tide height meant we we off the marsh earlier than was ideal.
Only 150 odd Wigeons, one, yes one, Pinkfoot equalled by a single 'Lag and exceeded by a coupla Canadas.
13 Avocets feeding along Crab Gutter and 36 Eiders billing and cooing near Cross Gutter.
Zillions, well at least 10k, gulls on territory but no signs yet of nests. 1000 odd Black T Godwits to add to the 500 that Graham Clarkson counted at Marshside. A single Spotty Red in winter plumage.

ps I think John Bannon is tetrading Botanic Gardens so he may know about the broody pair of Stock Doves hanging about near the "arboretum" so called.
