Singing in the sunshine

Got down to Marshside from 4pm to 6.30pm, lovely and warm, but the easterly wind began strengthening quite quickly.
Didn't stop the Sedge Warblers singing their brains out between Marshside Road and the Sandgrounders Hide, and a Whitethroat was pretty noisy along there too.

Swifts going through, but a male House Sparrow around the pools was from the Marshside estate I guess, having a quick commute.
I had 25+ Dunlin on Polly's Pool and a single Little Stint amongst the Black Tailed Godwits and Avocets.
Like Derek Forshaw (see comment on previous blog entry) I watched the Ruffs lekking in front of Nels hide - five males and three females, plus two Dunlin there.
I thought it was great the way the Ruffs touched bills like boxers touching gloves before they started jumping and shimmying, a superb display to watch, although one continually dancing round a single nettle on his own may have lost the plot...
Single Common Sandpiper flew in.
There were four male Garganey south of Nels, feeding in the deeper water just over the reeds, so they may have sneaked into cover by the time Derek got down.

A few Green Veined Whites along the path down to Nels now.
Ruddy Duck and Gadwall still about, with one or two Pintail, plenty of Shoveler and the odd Wigeon.

Stock Doves in with the Woodpigeons and Reed Warbler singing in the SSSI ditch.
Not much in the way of passage though, but tomorrow is another day.
Eyes to the skies everyone, eyes to the skies...

Just popped into Seaforth on the way home from work to take a look at the 2 Spoonbill through the fence.
Great views, thanks for the tip.

Well blow me down John - there wasn't a one of those Garganeys to be seen anywhere by 7 o clock, and in fact I didn't spot any Teal which surprised me!!
