Seawatch 22.06.08

Man it was wild at Formby Point for the tide today!
Picked up Bazzo this morning and we watched from the Tobacco Dump from 11.55am to 3pm.
South Westerly force 7, gusting to force nine, and without any rain, more sand in the air (and our eyes) than there was on the beach.
Mucho scope shake.
Not too many birds out there either - perhaps this storm has come through too quick to put big numbers offshore.
Everything we saw today was hard won.

Highlight was probably two Storm Petrels, but both weren't particularly close in, and Bazzo couldn't get on the second one, before it disappeared in the troughs and murk. Anyway, we got the following:

Storm Petrel 2
Manx Shearwater 16
Gannet 30
Fulmar 1
Common Scoter 1
Guillemot 1
Common Tern 3
Eider (m) 1
Common Gull 10+
LBBs 25+
Cormorant 3
Racing Pigeon 6

Sometimes you've got to suffer for your birds - and this seawatch was about as sandblasted as they come.
Less wind tomorrow, but there maybe more offshore, you never know.
Eyes to the skies everyone, eyes to the skies...

Nah, don't worry Andy, bit of a scrub with some Jif and sandpaper and it'll be right as rain and ready for a trade-in....
