Rich Steel strikes again! Superb shots of gorgeous male Pied Flycatcher here, taken by Rich a week or two back - if only they were commoner in Lancs....

The link to Rich's site is, as always, on the right.
He explains: "Finally managed some pied flys. I just managed to catch the very last of them at the site I go to in North Wales.

"I only found two pairs, one having a second brood and the other with just one chick remaining.
"The rest and their young had already disappeared, although where they go to is anyone's guess as they just seem to vapourise."
Hmm, thinking about the Pied Flys flitting off gets me thinking that autumn birdingwise is nearly here.
The Swifts'll be on their way in a few weeks - only one breeding pair around Dempsey Towers this year, and a total of just seven birds screaming around together in the evening at best.

Once again, thanks for the pictures Rich, just stunning.
Eyes to the skies everyone, eyes to the skies....

Tried a sea watch at Freshfield yesterday am (Friday), but conditions all wrong and hardly anything seen - just a few Common and Sandwich Tern and 4 Gannets. Following the arrival of 8 coach loads of school children, gave up and went to Formby Channel, but no better here, with just 37 Sandwich and 3 Common Terns on the roost, plus a couple thousand of the usual wader species.
