Seawatch 02.08.08

It was so balmy when Bazzo and I arrived at Formby Point this morning for a spot of seawatching, you could almost hear the Hawai'ian guitar in the background - very warm, with a light south westerly, plenty of sun and barely enough breeze to bother a Sanderling's wings.
Fortunately the W/SWly managed to pick up to about force 5/6 by the time we left at 12.45pm, having been on site since 9.45am.
Not the most exciting of seawatches, but there were a lot of terns moving through, and if the wind holds it could be better tomorrow.
And while I'm on the subject of wind, we'll have no complaints from the ranks about the general breeziness - a good westerly is what we need at this time of year - the wilder the better.
Here's the bag for today:

Great Crested Grebe 3
Common Scoter 68
Gannet 17
Fulmar 1
Arctic Skua 1
Kittiwake 1
LBB 25
Sandwich Tern 288
Arctic Tern 170
Common Tern 142
Little Tern 8
Swallow 1 south

How the world changes...a count of 8 Little Tern is pretty good these days...yet they used to be so much commoner, c'est la vie.
Eyes to the skies everyone, eyes to the skies...
