Tropical's latest missive reads: "A family of Tawny Owls have been breeding in and around Thomason Towers for years and they are seen and heard regularly, so it was good to finally get a photo of one in the garden".
"There are good numbers of wood mice around the local gardens boosted by bird table food and cherry stones and it's either washing down the mice with strong lager or I need to tweak the red eye meter".
Indeed Tropical, I see what you mean about the matter of the red eye meter....

Got out myself for an hour or two on Ainsdale beach this afternoon, but it was very cloudy and the sea was a gazillion miles away.
30 Gannets fishing offshore, with lots of terns out there too and 12 Manx Shearwaters scudding south, occasionally breaking the horizon.
Five Common Scoters.
Ternwise at least 268 Sandwich Terns and 71 Common Terns on the beach, but they kept being flushed by dogwalkers and daytrippers - like the only place to walk on the beach was through the roosting birds.
I gave up counting them after the third time they'd been sent up into the air in 20 minutes and headed for the Green Beach.
It did occur to me that I could follow some of the flushers to their homes, hide in the shrubbery till after dark and when they're all tucked up warm in bed, creep out and blast "Fat of the Land" by The Prodigy through their letterboxes.
See how they like being woken up.
But I suppose the courts take a dim view of that sort of behaviour these days.
Green Beach quiet, apart from a few Skylarks and mipits, and a handful of Common Darters.
On the Sands Lake, dozing Tufties and the stripey headed young Little Grebe squeaking around after it's parent in the hope of a free meal.
Charity ended a week or so back for this one, and it was soon diving for its own dinner.
Eyes to the skies everyone, eyes to the skies...
