Thanks to Tony Conway for the news of the White Winged Black Tern down at Crosby - looks like I picked the wrong afternoon to disappear off onto the sands at Ainsdale!
So that's Caspian, Common, Arctic, Sandwich, Roseate, Black, Little and now White Winged Black along the Sefton coast over the last week or two - that's what I call good tern form!
Over 110 Sandwich Terns on Ainsdale beach this afternoon, off the Green Beach in the drizzle, with at least 45 Commons and a single Arctic Tern.
Three Common Scoter and a single Gannet offshore on the "high" tide at 4pm.
Plenty of Sanderling, with smaller numbers of Ringed Plover, Dunlin and Barwits along the tideline and a big roost of Oycs further north, but mucho disturbance from horse riders and dog walkers.
Thanks again to Tony and Bazzo for their tern alert service this week.
Eyes to the skies everyone, eyes to the skies....
