Apologies for gross blog dereliction this week, but by the time I've got home from work in news-infested, MTV-obsessed Liverpool (no, I wouldn't know Travis McCoy if he walked past me either), it's been post 4pm dusk.
Not much else to do then, other than a spot of nocturnal birding out the back of Dempsey Towers.
Now I know the inaugural year of the Nocturnal Birders' Club proved about as popular with you all as Russell Brand at a Fawlty Towers fan convention, but needs must when the sun disappears for a month or two.
So the Club is opening its doors again for its second year.
"Mad dog" Bannon of course happily embraced the whole idea in 2007, counting Redwings like they were going extinct tomorrow (he had most of the world's population calling over Churchtown one night thanks to a bit of nifty mathematical extrapolation).
Plenty were moving on Tuesday night this week - up to five a minute over Dempsey Towers at one point round 8pm, but last night's fireworks meant it was much quieter, with only 2 Fieldfares and 6 Curlews moving through the gloom, and they were probably just startled by a whizzbang.
Tawny Owls screeching later on, but I could sure do with a bit of daylight birding.
To complicate matters I've started work on a book which I've been promising to do for ages, so if anyone has any sites they'd like mentioning in Merseyside for birds, plants or beasts, just let me know via the "Comments" thingy, and I'll try to include them.
