Thanks to everyone who entered the "mystery bird" competition on Birdblog in November.
We have a winner, the first person who correctly named the species featured in Phil Boardman's pic taken near Skem...
The winner was none other than "the man with no nickname", Neill Hunt, who using all his not inconsequential powers of id and a typical jammyness, correctly called the bird as a Carrion Crow.
Individual Carrion Crows can show quite a lot of white in the wing on occasion, but Phil's oddity pic showed a bird with extreme wing flashes.
Well done Neill, and thanks to everyone else who had a go.
My own personal favourite suggestion was Dr Bob's upside down Bonxie...how's the weather on your planet Bob?
Neill's prize, supplied by John "Mad Dog" Bannon will be a copy of the new book, "In the Footsteps of Eric Hardy", a selection of the great man's writings, stuffed with tons of images too.
There were other suggestions for Neill's reward however - namely the job of counting the Coots on Southport Marine Lake everyday this winter for being such a smartypants.
Eyes to the skies everyone, eyes to the skies...
