Found the Snow Buntings today, further east up the beach than where everyone else seemed to be looking", says Si Glinn.
"Thanks to the couple with the metal detector working that area of the beach for taking a break whilst I got a couple of quick snaps."

Thanks for the pix Simon - for those who still haven't connected with the snowflakes on Ainsdale beach, park up by the Discovery Centre and head south down the shore, that seems to be the best bet....but how many did you have Si?
Eyes to the skies everyone, eyes to the skies...

I saw five - and they were north/east of the car park entrance, back towards Southport, but they were very mobile and headed off south again before I left.
For those of you south of the Mersey, a small party of Crossbills were showing well today near the Go Ape cabin at Delamere Forest - just down the lane from the railway station [Liverpool, Chester and Manchester connections].
Pine cones and seeds raining down.
And coffee and cakes available nearby too!
At least 7 male Bramblings in finch flock at the end of Pool Hey Lane, Scarisbrick, this morning.
Nuthatch still in Southport Crem Woods, 5 Crossbill and Scaup at Mere Sands Wood.
At least 6 Crossbills still at Mere Sands, and possible a few more than that. Good views of two males and four females feeding in the pine tops by End Lake. Seven female Goosander and three male from Marshall hide.
Hey, went to Mere Sands Wood on Friday just for an hour, on the feeders numerous Tree Sparrows, male and female Siskin, Bullfinch, Goldfinch and all the other regulars, in the wood I spooked a Woodcock and was very happy because its the first 1 I have ever seen around here, 2 Nuthatch, Treecreeper and Golcrest, no luck with the Crossbills though.
On the lakes 2 male Goosander and 4 females, 3 male Goldeneye preforming to the 2 female and all the other winter visitors that you might expect... in the skies 1 Sparrowhawk, 1 Buzzard, 1 Merlin battling with a crow (I've never seen these at Mere Sands either, only at Marshside) and if anyone is interested, this excited me, the Nimrod flew over twice.
All in all a very good day
