15 reasons why I love Plex Moss

I really thought I'd run out of time this year, when I turned onto Plex Moss Lane for the second time this afternoon and there they were: a superstonking trip of Dotterels running about the big ploughed field about a quarter of a mile east of Gettern Farm like a flock of giant demented Wheatears.
Absolutely mucho deep pleasure baby!

Who cares if it was too windy/rainy/dark to get decent pix, these birds are what it's all about.
Stuck 'em on BIrdline Ted and watched 'em till about 6pm, when more folk had arrived to ogle.
If you get a chance, go, they may stick around in this bad weather.

Graham Clarkson arrived and we ended up counting the trip as they disappeared in and out of the furrows and got up to 15 birds, including 8 gorgeous females.
Biggest trip I've ever seen here.

30 odd Whimbrel and a few Wheatear out there too.
Life is good.
Eyes to the skies everyone, eyes to the skies...

Pure joy! Nice one JD - I owe you a pint.

Still 7 Dotterels including 2 females till 7.45pm, when they flew off low to the south.

Nice one John, isn't it great when a plan comes together?
You must be delighted.
In the circumstances it seems churlish to be pessimistic, but am I alone in thinking the lack of records from Pendle Hill this year is very worrying.
Stephen.

Well done on your Dotterel very pleased you got them in the end - well done.
I once went to the Cairngorms and never saw them but did do on Pendle Hill years later, nice feeling.

I'm pleased you finally got them, I might drop in early tomorrow morning to see if any have stayed the night.
Happy for you

Well done John your perseverance paid off. It was great to see them - thanks!

Hi John, excellent find mate. That's the biggest trip of Dotterels I`ve seen on the mosses since the mid-eighties.
The Pallid Swift was still showing well to visitors at Crosby Marina y`day and an immature male Black Redstart at Seaforth was a real bonus.
cheers,
Pete.

Thanks John, the Dotterel more than make up for my elusive Garganey

No sign of Dotterel at 9.30am this morn ...gutted!!!!!
