Even at the less than perfect seawatching site of Ainsdale's low dunes, an hour over the high tide was an hour well spent on Thursday (11.30am-12.30pm), with birds offshore, although not in the same league as Formby Point.

Three Whimbrels south down the beach late afternoon and what looked suspiciously like a Clouded Yellow fluttering along over the sand before the wind shifted to major hooley force -it was probably in Norway by the end of the day.
Friday's tide should be worth a look.
