Popped down to Marshside during my lunchbreak today to have a gander at the fine Wood Sandpiper, feeding happily in the shallows of the Junction pool.
A real class act, although my digishots aren't up to much!
Good to see one on the reserve again.

Dunlins and Lapwing on the pool too and a gorgeous flight of 40 Golden Plover came winging down from the north.
Kestrel and Peregrine about.
Met Squeaky and Jason, and the latter had scored with the young Hobby earlier in the day, with the bird hunting at the northern end of the reserve.
Mipits going through, and the place finally starting to feel a bit autumnal at last.
Plenty of Peacock butterflies at numerous locations today.
Eyes to the skies everyone, eyes to the skies...

Wood Sand still at Marshside today on Junction Pool. Plus 3 Dunlin, juv Little Ringed Plover and Common Sand from Hesketh Rd platform and a Great Crested Grebe on the Sandplant Pool.

Marsh Harrier [fem] off Plex Moss Lane today between 3:30 and 5:00

Just a short note to say that late this afternoon I watched two Painted Lady butterflies laying their eggs on ground hugging Plantain leaves in the well mown turf between Crosby Baths and the Coastguard.
