Post shopping therapy

I hate shopping. Always have. But as supermarkets are where beer comes from, it has to be done now and again.
Today was a shopping day, but it meant I managed an hour or so out on the mosses afterwards before the car boot full of frozen stuff began to melt.
Nice flock of Fieldfares (70+), Redwings (30+), Mistle Thrush, Skylark and Pied Wags feeding on the field opposite Wright's nurseries on Altcar Road (just over the bridge from Formby dump), and out on the WIthins, a fine hunting Barn Owl.
Big flocks of Woodpigeons carpetting the stubble round here, spooked by a graceful ringtail Hen Harrier which came sailing by.
Out on Plex it was fairly quiet (no surprise, seeing as how it was a "shooty Saturday"), but another Barn Owl was hunting over rough ground in one corner, with an immature male Stonechat nearby, so at least one made it through the freeze-up.
Few Buzzards mooching about.
20+ Corn Bunts out there too, and a few herds of Pinkies grazing the fields - but nowt out of the ordinary amongst 'em.
Eyes to the skies everyone, eyes to the skies...

Hi John,
WeBS count today on Southport Marine Lake threw up a few surprises after four weeks of deep freeze.
Pochard numbered 90 with Tufted Duck at 97. Both normally scarce on the lake.
Six Wigeon and a Common Scoter were birds I had never recorded there before. Ice covered about 80% of surface upon arrival, reducing to around 60% two hours later and thawing fast.

Saw a Snow Bunting today on Freshfield shore - beautiful.

Are the Snow Buntings still around Ainsdale??

No sign of the Snow Bunts between Ainsdale and Formby today (Monday) Andy - but they can be a bit mobile...I'll post if they pop up again.
