Squeezed a bit of birding in around various chores and meetings today, but that cool breeze still seemed to be slowing things down a bit.
Found it hard to concentrate to be honest - but this is what comes of giving up smokin'. Again. It can't be good for you.
Percy Sledge singing in the hedgerow by the Tesco car park at Formby, and 10 Whimbrel on Plex Moss - until they were spooked by a Peregrine that circled mean and lazy above.
Seemed to be more Whimbrels over Downholland, but too far off to be sure.
A Whitethroat was on roadside wires nearer Ainsdale, while the Haskayne Cutting was superb - if you like Chaffinch, Yellowhammer and Willow Warbler.
A good few Peacock butterflies out here though, with one or two Small Tortoiseshells.
Marshside was kinda quiet - no sign of the Wood Sandpiper Graham Clarkson saw early doors by the time I got down there - but there were a few groups of waders coming through - Dunlin and Ringed Plover, with three groups of Golden Plover.
Swallow, House Martin and Sand Martin all hawking above.
Eyes to the skies everyone, eyes to the skies...

John, I'd be interested in knowing if anyone has witnessed any Osprey migrating up the coast in the last day or two. Time and numbers would be appreciated. Thanks.
Bob.

Buzzard circling high over forest rd this afternoon

Had a male Redstart at Cabin Hill today also Wheatear, Chiffchaff, Willow Warbler and Blackcap. Someone walking his dog came up to me and asked me if I've come to see the White tailed Eagle ,any idea? There was one over Leighton Moss last week sometime.

Hi John, I had the most wonderful day watching wildlife. Firstly a drive down Plex Moss brought three Whimbrels. Then while scanning a stubble field at the end Rosemary Lane a Ring Ouzel landed less than ten yards in front of me.

A trip to Crosby brought my first swift of the year over Seaforth LWT. Then watching the Wheatears next to the old radar tower I was lucky enough to see a stoat sneaking up on a wheatear on a low bush. The stoat made a quick dash for the bird but was not quick enough. The stoat then spent the next few minutes performing the most amazing jumps and somersaults which I assume was more from enjoying a wonderful spring morning rather than the frustration of missing its breakfast.

A quick view of the Wood Sandpiper at Marshide and a great battle between a Brown Hare and a Crow at Hesketh-Out-Marsh brought the end to an excellent day. The Hare decided he did not want the Crow landing in his field and chased it down each time it wanted to land. After six attempts the Crow gave up.

Lone Swift over Aintree Racecourse this afternoon. Brimstone, Holly Blue and Orange Tip flying together at Pickerings Pasture on Wednesday. A friend also had a Brimstone in his Ormskirk garden and I had a Speckled Wood in mine yesterday.

5 singing male Lesser Whitethroats at Bretherton Pits on Friday morning.
