Relax, relax, relax - Dempsey Towers hasn't scored yet again, only weeks after the Oak Bushcricket episode, it's a shot I took last year, but at least it illustrates the link Sandra Sparkes from the BTO has kindly sent me about the current Waxwing invasion
Thought I heard a bit of "trim fone" from the skies above Formby Point this morning, as a flock of 21 dumpy Starling types bombed outta sight, but they were gone too fast....Siskin, Redwing, Skylark, Reed Bunting, Chaffinch, Mipit and Pied Wag through there this a.m. though, with movement stopping by lunchtime.
Eyes to the skies everyone, eyes to the skies...

Hi John , The North West Bird Forum mentions an Ortolan Bunting being seen at Formby today . Have you heard anything about this ? Cheers , Colin .
Your "link" shows Waxwings feeding on the berries of Cotoneaster salicifolius (Willow-leaved Cotoneaster). Coincidentally, I photographed a fine bush of this species on the National Trust estate at Formby Point this afternoon. No Waxwings though! However, it might be worth checking the Cotoneaster bushes at Freshfield Station carpark.
Colin - Believe there was a report of a possible Ortolan near Cabin Hill on Friday morning, don't know anymore I'm afraid.
John,
Do the Waxies ever feed off those orange berries that seem to line the Pontins and Weld Rd ends of the Coast Road?
JD: Sadly I've never come across 'em eating Sea Buckthorn berries John
A Treecreeper on Birkdale lnr this afternoon was a long over due site first for me, in with a tit flock. Also very confiding (Lesser) Redpolls, 5-8 of them. A single Siskin, 3-4 Goldrest and a small movement of Skylarks over and a few Meadow Pips.
Hi, Does anybody have any information on the Yellow Browed Warbler reported in Crosby over the past couple of days?
Had record numbers of Waxwings locally (near Bergen, Norway) the last couple of weeks. Numbers dropping off now but replaced by Bullfinches and on 01.11 a fly over Pine Grosbeak. Looks like at least some of the irruptives are doing their thing this year..
2 female Snow Bunting roughly a mile north of Shore Road on Ainsdale/Birkdale beach this afternoon. 82+ Tufties, drake Shoveler and 3 Little Grebe on Sands Lake.
4 Grey Partridge today in the field bordering Park Wall Rd, Thornton also 20 Fieldfare and 10 Blackbird and a couple of Redwing
Spent dinnertime yesterday at the Yeld car park - 9 Waxwings (12 reported) feeding on insects from a large Ash, skittish as ever but well worth a travel SJ532692...
Hi, I found the Yellow-browed Warbler on the morning of the 31st Oct in Coronation Park, Crosby.
It was a very vocal individual and was initially in the Birches on the central path of the park before being seen by other birders elsewhere in the park. It was last seen that day heading into the adjacent gardens with a few Blue Tits.
There was no sign on the 1st Nov, but the next day I had it again in the same area.
I`ve checked a few times since but had no sight or sound of it,
cheers,
Pete Kinsella.
