Another round of "thank yous"

Posted by on January 31, 2011 5:41 PM |

coverwm2.jpgYet again, I must thank all the lurvely folk out there who have taken the trouble to buy "Wild Merseyside" over the last month or two, as another royalty cheque has wafted its way through the letterbox at Dempsey Towers today.
Admittedly I won't be splashing out on a bath of Peroni as a consequence, but it's great that people are still buying the wee book - so a big "muchas gracias" to you all.
I may even write another tome one of these days - then I'd have enough royalties to buy TWO bottles of beer.
While I think about it, there is a certain Italian brewery who should be supplying me with freebies, given the number of plugs I give their product...just a thought.

Not much happening on the coast birdwise today as far as I could tell - but I did notice the Twite flock (about 35 birds this time) at the south end of Ainsdale beach again - they buzzed off before I could get within any meaningful range.
And about 30 Redwings are lurking in the pines at Lifeboat Rd, Formby, alongside Long Tailed Tit, Goldcrest and a horde of increasingly frisky Magpies.
Still got 3 Brambling coming to the feeders at Dempsey Towers, which is nice, as is Ron Jackson's video of the Red Necked Grebe at Fairhaven Lake.
Thanks for the link Ron.
Eyes to the skies everyone, eyes to the skies...

Hi John,
Hen Harrier over Churchtown Moss this afternoon. Mike.

I had a quick drive over Plex and Halsall Mosses at lunch time. 50+ Whooper Swans and a couple of Pinks as I drove past, off Renacres Lane near Gregory Lane, a couple of Kestrels here and there and 11 Red Legged Partidge on Plex was about all in the miserable weather.

Thanks for the info about Pilling. We had a great day out but the only geese we saw were the Pinks. There was about 50 Twites flying about and a lot of them ringed, apparently from Heysham observatory. Huge flocks of birds by the tideline, we recognised Dunlin and Oystercatchers, but were unsure whether the others were Knot. Any ideas please?
Keep up the fantastic blog.
Garry

Great to meet you t'other day John, looks like that Great White Egret over Ince Blundell hasn't turned up again.
On Tuesday had a Great Skua off Ainsdale Beach, but can't find those elusive Twite anywhere!
Cheers Pod
