Good numbers of Pinkies scattered about the Outer Marsh at Marshside today, with Merlin, and a selection of hardy ducks that stuck out the recent freeze-up, Water Rail by Sandgrounders Hide and a few thousand gulls roosting on Marshside One.
Seven Grey Partridge on Crossens Outer was reassuring.
Down at Weld Rd, thousands of gulls by the rising tide (although it appeared to me that there were fewer than yesterday).
Singularly failed to pick anything unusual out of 'em.

Flock of 15-20 Twite bounding about, but never settling in one place for very long.
Eyes to the skies everyone, eyes to the skies...

On Thursday lunchtime a Little Egret was on Fine Janes Brook behind Birkdale allotments.

It includes articles on our trip to Puffin Island in July; White Satin Moths at Ainsdale in June (with some excellent photographs) the variety of fungi to be found in local woods in winter 2009/20 (with more photographs); a picture of the extraordinary Spindle Ermine Moth larval webs at Frodsham in June; various reports on field trips during 2010

4 Brambling at Pickerings Pasture yesterday afternoon.

Three Med Gulls in the Marshside One roost on Tuesday - 1 adult and 2 second winters.

Little Egret again (Tuesday) on Fine Janes Brook, Kew/Birkdale area feeding between the rear of Birkdale Allotmments and the wooden footbridge.

Female Red-Crested Pochard very close to hide at Nel's, Marshside today. Great views. It was upending and dabbling for food like a good 'un, but the experience was soured somewhat by the little voice at the back of my head informing me that it was probably an escapee from the Mere.
Other than the tame jobs at Martin Mere I've never seen one before. Any thoughts John? My heart wants to put a tick in the blank box against RCP but my head tells me otherwise!
JD: Welcome to the pain of exotic wildfowl John! The RCPs (the leucistic one is still on the Marine Lake) ain't from the mere....but what you do with 'em is a matter for you and your conscience!

On this nice mild day I was clearing vegetation out of my pond at 3.30 when a flock of vociferous Waxwings zoomed low over the garden and off in the direction of Walton Hall Park. I had a one second view of about six. Their trilling calls were unmistakable. A flock of 22 visited this Walton garden on Boxing Day 2005.

Brilliant daytime views of a Barn Owl hunting over the Forestry Commission's 'Roughleys Wood' down Moor Lane towards Shorwicks Bridge [River Alt], Lunt at lunchtime Wednesday.

Hen Harrier moving south west at Runcorn Hill today at 9.07 am

Forgot to add the harrier was female.
