With the sun at my back.

Just about time for a quick look at the Withins this afternoon, in glorious winter sunshine.
At first glance not much about, but then two Ravens came croaking over before drifting off towards Downholland - any day with Ravens in it is a good day.
They resisted the temptation to hassle the local Buzzards, unlike a pair of Carrion Crows, which gave one buteo a right pasting.
Felt quite sorry for the buzz, until it gave the crows the slip and perched up in a bid to regain composure.

One large flock of 60+ Lapwings out there too, with some birds appearing to be checking out suitable nesting territories...but it'll be a while before they do anything about it.

With much ploughing going on, large numbers of BHGs and Common Gulls were following tractors about the blackening fields, but despite a quick check, I couldn't root out any Meds.
Grey Herons following the plough too, with more Lapwing and Starlings.

Red Legged Partridge tuning up on Plex later on, and plenty of Fieldfare in the winter stubble there.
Eyes to the skies everyone, eyes to the skies...

Lots of Fieldfare on Sea Buckthorn at Ainsdale LNR with Bullfinch also Red Squirrel and a Fox on the path behind Formby High School looking really striking in the morning sun .Two Buzzards over Fishermans Path one much larger than the other could this be the female? Two Cormorants apparently shot dead in Walton Hall Park lake .

Hi John, what area would you define as the Withins?

Howdy Dave, I'd describe "the Withins" as the area between Engine Lane and Rye Moss Lane, south of Great Altcar.
