World of Whitethroat.

Man cannot live by Dotterel alone, especially when he isn't finding any on Plex, so I spent a few hours in Birkdale NR this morning, where Whitethroats seemed to be "singing" from just about every bush or tree.
The place was infested with 'em.
Squawking away from the tops of pines, sea buckthorn, hawthorn, gorse - they were everywhere.

Willow Warblers, Chiffies and Blackcap singing too, with Gropper and Lesser Wthitethroat reelin' and rattlin' further out into the dunes.
Cuckoo calling earlier on, Jay, and three Sprawks up together, with small numbers of Swifts arcing north.
Surprisingly few butterflies, but Common Blue and Orange Tip were on the wing.
Out on Plex, the "Dotterel drought" continues, with Whimbrel, Wheatears and all the farmland regulars, but none of the sexy beasts yet.
Mebbe this rain front will improve things..
Eyes to the skies everyone, eyes to the skies...

Saw my first Swifts (3) of the year today whilst looking up through a skylight from my Crosby based dentist's chair! Lessened the pain somewhat.

1 Hobby heading north over Plex this morning. Also 8 Whimbrel, Cuckoo, Wheatear, Yellowhammer etc.

2 Whinchat (1m 1f) near the boardwalk at Birkdale today, also 5+ Wheatear and a trickle of Swallows. Lots of waders on beach.
