Thanks to Ralph Jones for sending me this shot of one of two Short Eared Owls he had on the beach at Raven Meols at 2pm today, hopefully the big influx of these wonderful birds into the UK this autumn means we'll have lots more of 'em.
Plenty around already, with birds at expected sites like Marshside and Sefton Meadows, but also the Green Beach, mosses etc.
And thanks to Neil Roberts, who sent me the following after a successful afternoon in the gloom of Plex on a November afternoon.
"Hi John, seen today:
2 European Whitefronted Geese present in with the Pinks late afternoon till dusk along with a ringtail Hen Harrier and a male Hen Harrier, Peregrine Falcon and a Merlin also present on Plex.
The pic of the Short Eared Owl was taken a couple of days ago on Sefton Meadows.
Regards Neil R"

Just came back from Formby - I flushed a Short Eared Owl from the sand dunes at Cabin Hill next to the path at Altcar Ranges also at the back of Range High School there was a flock of Goldfinch of 50 plus birds with Greenfinch and Chaffinch.

6 Pale-bellied Brents on saltmarsh at Marshside this afternoon. Usual raptor-fest over Crossens.

6 Euro Whitefronts and 7 Barnacles still on Crossens Inner, early afternoon today during a brief lunch time foray.

Single Tundra Bean Goose with 600 Pinks in fields adjacent to the sluice/drain off Birkdale Cop Road/Heathy Lane, early afternoon today. Lots of Geese coming and going in the area.

Up to ten European Whitefronts, seven Barnacles, six Pale-bellied Brents with c 3500 Pinkfeet at Marshside/Crossens this afternoon; 4 Marsh Harriers hunting saltmarsh

John,
Yesterday afternoon, there was a flock of 4000+ Pinkfeet on Downholland Moss giving great views from the road just east of the first bridge. With them were two adult Tundra Bean Geese acting as a pair. One had more orange on the bill than the other. Unfortunately I had only searched about half the flock when it was flushed by shooters banging away about 1km distant.
Phil.

Hi John, Another sighting of the big falcon today - seen from the footpath from the metal bridge over the Alt that runs behind Carr Wood and joins the cycle track this pm, Red Kite still present and a cracking male Merlin plus a Barn Owl
I still can't make out a ring or anklets but it matters little really.
Regards Neil

Raven over Lifeboat Road today.

Pair of Bullfinch just north of Shore Road, Ainsdale today.

I live looking over Plex Moss and have seen a large 'falcon' flying over the fields but am never quick enough to either get my binocs or camera!!
