Zipped over the mosses late this afternoon for a quick look at the Monty's Harrier, still ranging over the fields around Great Altcar.
Gorgeous, elegant bird that came in circling high from the south before dropping to quarter the fields, often disappearing for long periods.

Frustratingly, its appearances tended to coincide with particularly heavy downpours, although they were over fairly quickly, allowing me to admire the harrier sailing through the air with that superb deceptively lazy flight action.
Marsh Harrier out over the fields too, with the usual Buzzards etc.
Eyes to the skies everyone, eyes to the skies...

Two Marsh Harriers near Great Altcar this morning, but no sign of the Monty's.

Manx Shearwater 5
Gannet 58
Great Crested Grebe 1
Great Skua 1
Arctic Skua 1
Kittiwake up to 30 continuously coming and going at the Lennox Gas Rig offshore, surely indicative of a breeding colony on the structure.

Common Tern 5

Monty's Harrier near Great Altcar tonight.

I went in search of the Monty's Harrier this afternoon but drew a blank despite
tailing groups of birders around Great Altcar and Engine Lane. It was definitely seen
several times today (Sunday) but not by me unfortunately.
Plenty of other activity around with singing Corn Buntings, Yellowhammer, Lapwings and piping Oystercatchers between there and Downholland Moss.
Possible sighting of Mr Dempsey around 4pm on Engine Lane?
JD: Not me Kev, I was safely tucked up with Mr Peroni by then.

I was there yesterday but the bird was around the Moss Lane Bridge area showing really well.

Poor night's mothing at Dempsey Towers last night inbetween the showers:
Heart and Dart 3
Large Yellow Underwing 1
Brimstone 2
Silver Y 1
Swallow Prominent 1
(and a few micros).

Hi John, just a note to say that there was a pale, worn Painted Lady careering around over the sea wall at Leasowe this afternoon with half a dozen newly emerged male Meadow Browns.
