Many thanks to Phil Boardman, for this cracking shot of a young Hobby out on the mosses recently.
Always a bird to brighten a hirundine infested day.
Small groups of Swallows moving along the coast today, with 3 Wheatears at the entrance to Ainsdale Beach, and another in the dunes at Birkdale.
Had a quick look out to sea over the tide - nothing passing, although very large numbers of Common Scoter (500+) were wobbling north along the horizon.
The Sarnie Terns were still roosting on the beach though and many Common Darters were conjoined and mating out over the sands.
Tempting to believe several Common Buzzards out over the beach today were migrants, but I think they were local birds just stretching their wings.
Muchas gracias to Phil Smith for the superb dragonfly shots he sent me this week too - gorgeous Southern Hawker, Ruddy Darter, Common Darter and Migrant Hawker.
All are still on the wing in the dunes at the moment, they just take a bit of looking for.
Eyes to the skies everyone, eyes to the skies...
