With the wind whipping through the trees from the west at Dempsey Towers this morning I decided, against my better judgement, to have a quick look offshore from the dunes at Ainsdale over the tide.
My arrival coincided with the onset of one of the nastiest seafrets it has been my misfortune to sit through - cloud lower than a snake's belly, the horizon a distant memory, wind dropping, rain getting heavier all the time - d'oh!
Out in the murk juv LBBs pretending to be Poms, and fleeting strings of Common Scoter, otherwise just Cormorants all the way - but that's seawatching, especially from Ainsdale.
15 Sandwich Tern on the beach, with the usual waders, particularly Sanderling.
And you thought you had it bad yesterday Bazzo!
Eyes to the skies everyone, eyes to the skies....

Commiserations, John. As you say, seawatching is supremely unpredictable. At least, if I didn't have any birds, I did have superb visibility and sunshine!
Couldn't find your Curlew Sandpiper on Plex Moss marsh today, but had seven Ringed Plover, a Golden Plover and a Wheatear though.
