Wild yet mild

Posted by on December 15, 2013 8:34 PM |

Chill wind skipping over the flat fields of the Withins this afternoon, yet mild enough for a bumblebee to sail past the car down the track - didn't get on it quick enough to see what sp it was, but you don't see many of them in the middle of December.
Plenty of Pinks out on Altcar Moss, over Plex and Carr Moss but no flocks close enough to work through satisfactorily.
Peregrine over Plex and 40+ Fieldfares on Carr Moss, otherwise it was all a bit Groundhog Moss Day - probably shoulda got outta bed earlier and gone for the Notts Parrot Crossbills...
Eyes to the skies everyone, eyes to the skies...

I had to do an early morning drop at Manchester Airport this morning John and decided to head over to Notts for the Parrot Crossbills after, cracking views, well worth it. Got a few digiscope record shots too.

Pair of Ravens flying over Haskayne Cutting yesterday and a female Stonechat mingling with a Linnet flock at Formby Beach this morning. A couple of Red Squirrels very active near Lifeboat Road too.

American Buff Bellied Pipit reported from Burton Marsh at 9.20am on pager.
