White-letter Hairstreak...again!!

White-letter Hairstreak Pinfold 15 7 14 Davenport-1.jpg

Two years later and still scoring the coast's most enigmatic butterfly and on the same date as their first indeed - another excellent find by Phil Smith and Trevor Davenport this week...gotta be worth a try if the thunderstorms hold off over the next day or so.
Over to Phil:
"Trevor and I found a White-letter Hairstreak on Pinfold Meadow, Ainsdale NNR, yesterday afternoon. It was nectaring on Rosebay Willowherb on the western boundary. We had two prolonged views at SD30407 11228. Photographs were taken with some difficulty. (One of Trevor's above).
Coincidentally, it was on the same date two years ago that we saw the first one.
Unfortunately, we did not find any Forester moths but the field had plenty of Gatekeepers, Meadow Browns and Small Skippers, together with the first Small Coppers and Common Blues of the second generation".

Great record.
Eyes to the skies everyone, eyes to the skies...

A few Sandwich Tern and Gannet off Birkdale on Wednesday and reasonable numbers of breeding plumage Dunlin also, viewing just south of Weld Road

Stunning butterfly!!
I have to admit to being a beginner when it comes to butterfly/dragonfly/etc identification, but I've been amazed at how quickly one's list grows once you actually start looking. A first for the garden today - a Comma - and amazing numbers of Gatekeepers around at Formby.
